Three Ways To Use Cosmic Shimmer

Hello everyone! I’m Mindy Eggen from Mindy Eggen Design and I’m excited to be back on the Spellbinders blog to share with you three different ways to use cosmic shimmer in your card projects.

Three Ways To Use Cosmic Shimmer

Before I begin, if you haven’t worked with Cosmic Shimmer Polish before it is kind of like a creamy paste that has tons of shimmer and shine. The top of the lid contains a flat sponge applicator and the jar contains the polish.

Three Ways To Use Cosmic Shimmer

TECHNIQUE 1: Backgrounds

One of the easiest ways to use the polish is to apply it directly to your cardstock. You can use colored cardstock or white for this technique. One thing to note is this polish dries pretty quick so I suggest working on a scratch piece of paper for easier cleanup.

This technique can be used on its own to use as a shimmery background to your embellishments and sentiments or you can use that cardstock in so many other ways. Which leads me to my next technique.

TECHNIQUE 2: Embossing Folders

After the panel is completely dry, you can use your embossing folders to add texture.

You can also take the sponge applicator and drag it across an embossed background to make the design stand out a little more with shimmer.

Use any of your floral dies and sentiments to die cut from the panel we added the polish to. This will give them a fun and unique look!

TECHNIQUE 3: Accents

This one may be my favorite! Die cut your florals from colored cardstock and then using a light application, add the polish to the edge of the die cuts. It’s a subtle but beautiful way to enhance your die cuts.

I suggest using a pair of reverse tweezers to hold the smaller pieces when applying the polish.

I created a card using my die cuts with the shimmer edges. They are a great way to embellish your card without taking away from the sentiment and message you are sending.

I added an embossed background of Sparkling Snow to add a touch of interest on a light blue background.

The sentiment I chose comes from the Merry & Bright Sentiment Strips Press Plate which allows me to press and die-cut multiple sentiments at once. This is great if I want to make multiple cards with this same look.

I hope you enjoyed today’s inspiration and it has given you some ideas on how to use cosmic shimmer in your paper crafting projects. Happy Holiday friends! You can always find me on my Youtube Channel, Blog, and Instagram.
