Simple Floral Card with Must-Have Sentiments and BetterPress

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the new Must-Have Sentiments Press + Foil Plate + Die Set from the Simon’s Sentiments collection. This wonderful collection is full of sentiments that were previously released as Glimmer plates but have now been remade so that you can now foil them and press them! I love that you can do both with these plates depending on how you feel on that day! I am pressing them today and combining them with the Petal Fresh set.

Die-cut the Petal Fresh Etched Dies:

PLEASE NOTE: The dies are shown in the photo facing upwards, so that you can see which die is cut from which cardstock. When die-cutting, you need to have the cut side facing down onto the cardstock.

Some of these dies cut layers for different flowers:

1. Die-cut the base layer of flowers from Lavender ColorWheel Cardstock.
2. Die-cut the middle layer of flowers from Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock.
3. Die-cut the top layer of flowers from Fairy Tale ColorWheel Cardstock.
4. Die-cut flower centres from Beeswax ColorWheel Cardstock.
5. Die-cut flower buds from Bellini ColorWheel Cardstock.
6. Die-cut leaf branch from Waterfall ColorWheel Cardstock.
7. Die-cut leaves from Rainforest ColorWheel Cardstock.

8. Hold dies down onto cardstock pieces using Best Ever Craft Tape.
9. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):

• A Platform Base
• B Platform Top
• C Cutting Plate
• Cardstock with die on top
• C Cutting Plate

10. Repeat the process to die-cut flower centres again, leaf branch from Seaside ColorWheel Cardstock, and leaves and stem for buds from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock.

11. Turn middle layer of first flower over and add Bearly Art Glue on the back.

TIP: Tweezers are great for both holding die cuts to add glue on them and for placing die cuts down. The Pick Up Tool is also great for picking up and adhering smaller die cuts. 

12. Adhere to base of flower.

13. Add glue to the back of flower centre.
14. Adhere to flower.

15. Add glue onto the back of the top layer of flower.
16. Adhere to the flower, lining up the petals with the top of the middle layer.

17. For the second flower, adhere the flower centre to the base layer first.

18. Adhere the first part of the top layer in place, overlapping the flower centre, lining up with the petal shape on the base layer.

19. Adhere middle layer below.

20. Adhere the top layer of petals at the bottom of the middle layer piece.

21. Add small dabs of glue to the bud parts on the stem.
22. Adhere buds on top.

1. Flip Platen of Betterpress Letterpress System over and place Porcelain BetterPress A2 Cotton Card Panel inside the registration marks. Hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape in the corners.

2. Place Must-Have Sentiments Press + Foil Plate onto Chase (the Chase is magnetic so it will hold in place). Use the registration marks to place it inside the A2 panel size.
3. Tap Iris BetterPress Ink onto the plate and swivel the ink pad slightly to get good coverage of ink.

4. Flip Platten over (so the cardstock is facing downwards) and place onto platform (over the Chase). The magnets in the corners will hold it in place.

5. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine.

TIP: Please note that depending on your individual machines, you may need more or less shims under the Chase. Here, only one is used as over-pressing occurred when using two. Experiment with your machines to find out what works best.

6. Lift Platten from platform to reveal pressed image.
7. Remove cardstock panel from Platen by carefully removing tape.
8. Remove plate from Chase and clean.
9. Place coordinating die over the sentiments and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
10. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the same sandwich as when die cutting the flowers.

1. Place 4.25” x 5.5” panel of Raven ColorWheel Cardstock inside A2 Herringbone Décor 3D Embossing Folder.
2. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):

• A Platform Base
• Embossing folder with cardstock inside
• D Adapter Plate

3. Apply adhesive to the back of the panel.
4. Adhere to an A2-sized card base made from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.

5. Adhere leaf branches to card base first, using Bearly Art Glue.

6. Using the larger flowers as a guide for placement, adhere the leaves and bud stem next.

7. Apply foam squares onto the back of the larger flowers. Cover the back of the flower that will be adhered first, completely with foam squares (a large one is used here). Apply foam squares (smaller ones are used for this flower) to the back of the flower that will be adhered on top, just on the left-hand side on the back (will be right when flipped over).

8. Remove backings off foam squares.
9. Adhere to card.

10. Die-cut the sentiment die again from the leftover cardstock used originally.
11. Adhere to the back of the pressed one. This is optional, but it will give some extra stability and dimension to the sentiment.

12. Apply small foam squares to the left of the sentiment.
13. Remove backings off foam squares.
14. Adhere to the card, on top of the flowers.

15. Embellish with Prism AB Color Essentials Gems.

TIP: A precision tool is really helpful when picking up and placing down gems.

Whilst of course there are lots of colours of foil, I really like that I could coordinate the colour of ink on the pressed sentiment with the florals. I also really like how both the florals and the sentiment pop against the black background, and the embossing folder adds just the right touch of interest without overpowering them.
